Econsult was commissioned by PennFuture to identify, discuss, and estimate the economic, environmental, health, and quality of life benefits of a fully connected waterfront greenway within the city of Philadelphia. The annual impact is estimated to run into the tens of millions of dollars annually, with particular gains in tourism, property values and healthcare cost reductions. The report should enlighten discussions among policymakers, environmental advocates and neighborhood groups about the gains that would accrue to individual users, property owners, city government, the local economy and the region as a whole should existing waterfront greenways be extended to encompass all riverfronts within city limits.
