Lee Huang, Econsult Director, has been asked to participate in National Association of Seed and Venture Funds’ (NASVF) annual conference on October 15th. Econsult’s NASVF/US Department of Agriculture Research Service economic impact study will be part of a case study presentation.
The PA Chapter of the American Planning Association accepted Econsult’s Peter Angelides and Lee Huang's topic for a workshop to be presented at their 2010 Annual Conference in Lancaster, PA. The workshop is titled: “Drivers of Commercial Corridor Success: Lessons for Increasing Retail Performance.” The workshop is scheduled for Tues, October 5, 2010, 4:00pm - 5:30pm. SEPT 2010:
Richard Voith, Econsult Senior Vice President and Principal, has been invited by the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR), to serve as a member of the resource team for the 2010 Northeast Regional Mayors’ Institute on City Design, to be held in Philadelphia, September 22-24, 2010. He was selected as one of a small group of professionals to participate in this session of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, a National Endowment for the Arts leadership initiative in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors.
Peter Angelides, Econsult Vice President, will be participating in the “Development Costs and Affordable Housing” panel discussion at the Governor’s Conference on Housing and Community Development on September 28th at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

On August 11, 2010 at 10:00AM, Econsult Senior Advisor, Joe Fuhr hosted a Web Chat on The Implications of Broadband Policy on Jobs, Investment and Economic Recovery online at www.internetinnovation.org. He discussed topics such as the anticipated impacts of Title II broadband classification on investment, jobs and economic recovery and how regulatory efforts around Title II will advance and/or slow down implementation of the National Broadband Plan.
Kevin Gillen, Econsult Vice President, participated in WHYY’s Radio Times program about foreclosures in the housing and efforts to abate it. One of the featured guest was U.S. Rep. CHAKA FATTAH, (D-Philadelphia) who authored The Emergency Homeowners’ Relief Fund, set to take effect by October. He is joined by JOHN DODDS, Director of the Philadelphia Unemployment Project, an advocate for mortgage relief on the city, state and federal levels. Peter Angelides will be attending the Center City District’s Retail Roundtable. Some of the topics will be general insight on the overall health of the retail market in the city, what is driving the recent investment and retail development/leasing activity in center city, and new projects and investments planned in center city (public and private) that will influence the retail market. The Roundtable will be held at the Palomar on Thursday, July 22nd.
Joe Fuhr presented at the ASHE Conference (American Society of Health Economists) on June 22, 2010. He also was a speaker at the Americans for Technology Leadership’s Technology and Economic Recovery Luncheon on July 12th, discussing how the information technology and communications industry helps to create domestic jobs during a period of economic recovery.
JUNE 2010:
On June 28-29, 2010, Dan Gundersen, Econsult Senior Advisor, will be teaching a two day course as part time professional training for the “Certified Economic Developer (CED)” curriculum of the International Economic Development Council. The course is on Neighborhood Development and will be held in Baltimore, Maryland for approximately 50 professionals.
On June 15, 2010, Kevin Gillen, Lee Huang and Dan Miles--Econsult Vice President, Director and Associate respecitvely--presented the results on the economic value of open space in the Delaware Valley to the Green Ribbon Committee of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission at PECO headquarters in Philadelphia.
MAY 2010:
Econsult President Dr. David Crawford will be a member of the Faculty of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's 8th Annual Nonprofit Institute on May 18th in Philadelphia. He will be discussing the economics of reductions in force (RIFs) with emphasis on checking for disparate impacts on groups of employees defined by age, gender, race, ethnicity or disability.
Dr. Crawford's presentation will be one part of a full day program for lawyers advising nonprofit organizations, nonprofit executives, employees and volunteers, accountants, nonprofit board members, fundraisers and anybody who is thinking of starting up a nonprofit. Peter Angelides, Econsult Vice President, was a panelist at the “Homes Within Reach” conference, sponsored by the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, on December 10, 2009 at the Harrisburg Hilton. Dr. Angelides’ presentation included an overview of inclusionary zoning and a discussion of a financial feasibility model developed by Econsult for the New Jersey Council of Affordable Housing (COAH). JUN 2009: Dr. David Crawford, Econsult President, addressed the 63rd Annual Conference of the Pennsylvania State Association of Prothonotaries & Clerks of Courts in Wyomissing, PA on June 23, 2009. He discussed plans for Econsult’s new study of the roles of Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts in Pennsylvania’s Unified Judicial System. The study was commissioned by the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts.

Lee Huang, Econsult Director, will be one of the presenters at the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania's "Housing Matters Day" on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 10:00AM in the Media Center in the Capital, Harrisburg PA. Benjamin Cromie, Econsult research analyst and GIS specialist, will speak on the contribution of green
design to the strength of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods and commercial corridors at the Green Planning and Policy Charrette.
The event will take place Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 9 am – 12 noon at Houston Hall, University of Pennsylvania. Participants will
collaborate in planning the development in Philadelphia of a new 500,000-sf green business corridor that will transform Market
Street, West of 40th Street, into a center for sustainable business activity. University Place Associates will also unveil
plans for 2.0 University Place; a shovel-ready Platinum-LEED pre-certified office building that will be the first phase in this green corridor.
Lee Huang, Econsult Director, will be testifying at a joint public hearing in Philadelphia on May 1 on the topic “Strengthening the economies of the Commonwealth's metropolitan areas through the integration of work-authorized immigrants into the workforce.” The hearing is sponsored by the Labor Relations and Urban Affairs committees of the Commonwealth's House of Representatives. Mr. Huang’s comments will be based on a report Econsult produced for the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians on the economic impact of their immigrant workforce development programs. The hearing is open to the public and will take place at the Independence Visitors Center, Sixth and Market Streets, Friday, at 10:00 a.m.
APR 2009: Michael Mariano, Econsult Managing Director of Geospatial Analytics & GIS Solutions, will be the guest speaker at Penn GIS, Monday, April 27, 2009. This is the first meeting of PennGIS which is a group designed to bring together GIS users throughout Philadelphia to hear how GIS is being used and exchange ideas.
